Next HPAC Meeting Wed. October 28, 6-7:45PM at the Delridge Branch Library

Greetings all, hope you are enjoying the extended fall weather this year! This Wednesday will be the final meeting of 2026 for us, and there’s lots to share. PLEASE NOTE OUR EARLY START TIME of 6pm – the library needs to close by 8pm and we want time for robust discussions.

First we’ll hear from Friends of West Seattle Bike Park(FOWSBP) who are proposing the establishment of a modest public bike-skills park within Westcrest Park. This park would serve as an inclusive community hub for cyclists and other wheeled adventurers of all ages and skill levels, providing a safe and accessible environment for outdoor adventure in an urban setting and opportunities for community building. The new proposed area for the skills park is the V-shaped valley located north of the P-Patch, south of the reservoir cap and west of the dog park. They are looking for interested volunteers and community feedback for their ideas. We’ve seen pop-up performances and sledding here, can there be even more opportunity for community use? This idea has been explored previously elsewhere in West Seattle, would this be a better place for it?

We also will be hosting an open conversation with representatives from the Unified Care Team, Parks Department and LIHI to brainstorm best practices and ways to welcome the new Glassyard Commons Safe RV lot to the bottom of Highland Park Way. We welcome the chance this gives folks living in RV’s to connect with housing and services and stabilize their situations.

We also want to explore ways City agencies can help maintain public safety and enjoyment of nearby Parks and the West Duwamish Greenbelt Trails area, which multiple groups and volunteers have been working to replant for many years. Past experience has shown that satellite encampments increased around Camp Second Chance and Nickelsville, how can that be addressed proactively?

Meanwhile of interest around the area:

Planners of the Delridge Triangle Park project are planning to be at the Delridge Farmer’s Market on 10/31, and will have a couple pop-ups in the neighborhood, and an online survey soon. We encourage all nearby residents to watch for these, this area really needs City and public support.

The annual Seattle Public Safety Survey is online from Oct. 15-Nov. 30. Your feedback helps identify neighborhood public safety concerns and priorities and informs the Seattle Police Departments Micro-Community Policing Plans. Every neighborhood matters, and every response counts! This year they are looking for 50 responses from every neighborhood –

Free Annual Native Art Market – November 27 & 28th. Mark your calendars for holiday shopping at the Duwamish Annual Native Art Market, a two-day market featuring 21 Native artists and vendors, including several renowned artists at the Duwamish Longhouse.

The Ridge to River Coalition (R2R) announces upcoming community open
houses to look at the future of the West Duwamish Greenbelt – Seattle’s largest
remaining forest. We will explore options for a vision plan and pilot project. Participants
can give their opinions and ideas about trail access, safety, stewardship, and cultural
connections. Participant input will shape a long range vision for the greenbelt. Food and
childcare will be offered.

Save Seattle Schools wants to get the word out about future possible school closure/consolidation plans. Sanislo and Highland Park Elementary families would likely be impacted. Keep great public schools open. Give families a future they can plan around. Updates on their website.
