A big welcome to signs of spring popping up around the Highland Park, Riverview and South Delridge neighborhoods!
We at HPAC have heard a lot of concerns and comments following the SDOT report out on their planning for the Highland Park Way SW Connection Project and bike lane, so we have invited them to attend our meeting in person this month for in-depth conversation with the community and a chance to really drill down into the work they are doing. They will be joining us this Wednesday, March 25 starting at 6PM (Note early start time), at the Southwest Branch Library meeting room.
All are welcome to come give feedback on this vital area-wide transportation corridor. The project website has details from their first online presentation for your review prior to the meeting, and they will be presenting a third idea at the meeting in response to feedback so far.
On other topics. Your HPAC eboard is working to follow-up with the Mayor’s office and other stakeholders regarding the pending development of the Glassyard Commons RV Safe Lot & Tiny House Village site at 7200 W. Marginal Way S. We will be amplifying concerns we have heard from you regarding peripheral encampments, dumping and illegal activities.

We are asking the City to take lead on getting ahead of these spinoff issues so the Village can become a successful model for helping folks transition out of RV’s and into permanent housing. Feel free to email us with any issues or concerns.

In response to combined sewer overflows into upper Longfellow Creek, Seattle Public Utilites is working on a multi-year, multi-prong project to improve water quality, particularly in heavy rain events. You can read more here about this project, called Longfellow Starts Here. As part of the planning process community representatives from around the area have been meeting with SPU planners and engineers to look for ways that their infrastructure can enhance and meet our neighborhood specific needs. HPAC eboard has been contributing to this work and will share more with you as ideas coalesce.
And on a more social note – From our sister organization HPIC (Highland Park Improvement Club): All are invited to our kick-off First Friday gathering at the building site, 1116 SW Holden, Friday April 3rd 5:30-8:30. There will be fun, friends, tunes, activities, light fare and beverages.
